A businessman from Telangana who was abducted by a gang in a car in Koyambedu was rescued by the Greater Chennai City Police within a few hours in Andhra Pradesh. Six suspects were arrested and the car they used was seized.
The victim, Ravindra Goud, 57, a resident of K.V. Ranga Reddy district in Telangana, was engaged in the business of buying and selling used luxury cars.
Police said Goud suffered heavy business losses exceeding ₹7 crore and was unable to repay loans taken for business expansion.
As creditors began harassing him, he shifted with his family from Telangana to Chennai around December 7 and stayed in a rented house near Valasaravakkam.
The complainant Prasannalakshmi, 25, said her father, Goud, 57, was sitting outside the house on Friday morning when she suddenly heard him screaming. When she rushed out, she saw two men forcibly pushing her father into a white car. Based on a complaint at the Koyambedu Police Station, the police registered a case and began an investigation.
On Friday night, the police team intercepted the car near Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, rescued Goud safely, and arrested the six persons involved in the abduction, namely Veeraj Jaiswal, 38, Preetham Kumar, 35, Mothi Babu, 45, Vaikuntam, 41, Nagaraj, 35, and Srikant, 30. All are from Telangana.
