The 77th Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the Police Parade Ground here on Monday (January 26, 2026), with District Collector Sumith Kumar reiterating the administration’s commitment to making Chittoor a frontrunner in inclusive and sustainable development.
The Collector unfurled the national flag, inspected the parade, and received the guard of honour from the police battalion.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector highlighted key initiatives and said that the “Swachha Andhra–Swarn Andhra” programme, launched by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on January 24, aimed to transform sanitation and public hygiene across the State.
The Collector noted that 1,937 sanitation workers in the district are providing critical services daily, and that e-waste collection has been launched in four municipalities.
In the health sector, the Collector said that the Sanjeevani Project, piloted in Kuppam on July 3, 2025, will be rolled out across the district from the first week of February. The project enables the integration of electronic health records and ABHA, ensuring complete digital access to patients’ medical histories.
Under the NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme, a total of ₹1,117.50 crore has been disbursed to 2.67 lakh beneficiaries between April 2025 and January 2026. The “Talliki Vandanam” scheme has provided ₹335 crore to 2.23 lakh beneficiaries. Through the Jal Jeevan Mission, 1,822 works worth ₹91 crore have been completed to ensure safe drinking water to every household.
Infrastructure updates included near-completion of the Handri–Neeva Phase-2 canal works, extensive road repairs, and progress on major expressway and highway projects. The Collector also announced plans to install 221 MW of solar power projects under the State’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy.
Chittoor MLA Gurajala Jaganmohan, Chittoor mayor C. Amuda, senior officials from various government departments, and people’s representatives were also present.
