A 36-year-old Sri Lankan man suffering from severe burning pelvic pain for nearly a year underwent a minimally invasive procedure at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals in Chetpet.
The patient, who had been on medication for several months without adequate relief, was referred to Premkumar M., head of anaesthesia and senior interventional pain management specialist at the hospital, a press release said. An evaluation found that he had significant nerve damage in the pelvic region following transverse myelitis, a rare inflammatory condition affecting the spinal cord.
As per the release, he underwent superior hypogastric plexus and pudendal neurolysis with radiofrequency ablation, a procedure performed through tiny needle punctures to target the affected nerves and reduce the transmission of pain signals. The patient reportedly experienced significant pain relief and was able to return to his normal routine.
