Close to two lakh people have been included in the Absent, Shifted, and Deceased (ASD) category in the draft electoral roll published on Tuesday (December 23), as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters’ list in Kozhikode district.
This was revealed by District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh at a press conference. Mr. Singh said that 26,58,847 enumeration forms were distributed in the district as part of the SIR. The ASD list contained 1,86,179 entries, who were dead voters, untraceable/absent voters, permanently shifted, duplicated names and an ‘others’ category which includes people who decline to accept or return the enumeration forms (EF Refused).
In the ASD list, 53,711 (2.02%) are dead; 35,580 (1.34%) are untraceable; 63,592 (2.39%) are permanently shifted; 18,415 (0.69%) are enrolled elsewhere, and 14,881 (0.56%) are others. Mr. Singh said that of the returned enumeration forms, 96,161 (3.62%) could not be mapped with the 2002 electoral roll. However, 12,89,325 people (48.49%) mapped on their own in that voters’ list. At the same time, 10,87,182 (40.89%) were mapped with a list using details of their relatives.
The draft electoral roll is available in the offices of the electoral registration officers, village offices, and the website of the chief electoral office, https//electoralsearch.eci.gov.in. Any objections, claims, and clarifications can be submitted till January 22, 2026.
Those who have found their names missing from the list can re-enter them by submitting an application under Form 6. Hearings by electoral registration officers will be held till February 14, 2026. The final electoral roll will be published on February 21, 2026. Mr. Singh said that the district has 534 additional polling booths across 13 Assembly constituencies, taking their total number to 2,837. Gopika Udayan, Deputy Collector in-charge of elections, was present.
Meanwhile, a meeting was also held with the representatives of political parties to explain the SIR process. Mr. Singh urged political parties to deploy booth-level agents in all newly set up polling stations.
