Cotton farmers will be provided with subsidy for spraying of crop protection chemicals using drones and training on cultivation of cotton in Virudhunagar district under Mission for Cotton Productivity.
The mission aims to increase the coverage of cotton cultivation and improve its quality and provide advanced technological assistance to farmers, said Collector Sharanya Ari in a statement.
The mission focuses on promoting technological advancements such as high density planting system and closer spacing and to increase the generation of income for farmers from 2026-27.
A subsidy of ₹14,000 will be given to farmers for setting up demonstration plots on high-density planting system and ₹18,500 for a closer spacing demonstration plot. Farmers coming forward to set up a demonstration plot for extra long staple cotton cultivation will be given a subsidy of ₹9,500.
Under the mission, farmers will be given a subsidy of ₹7,500 for putting up a demonstration plot for integrated crop management in order to increasing cotton production and productivity.
Farmers using drones to spray crop protection chemicals will get 50% of the expenses and they will also be given training on all aspects of technological advancements in cotton cultivation.
The subsidy for different demonstration plots will be taken up on 1,600 hectares, and spraying of chemicals using drones will be taken up on 800 hectares.
Farmers interested in the mission can register themselves through Uzhavan app or by approaching the nearest office of Assistant Director, (Agriculture), the statement said.
