Women empowerment programme
A Women Empowerment Programme titled ‘Siragai Viri Uyare Para’ was organised at G.T.N. Arts College. Sponsored by the G.T.N. Arts College Alumni Association, the programme was jointly organised by the Women Cell, Student Affairs Cell and Students Grievances Redressal-cum-Counselling Cell. Principal P. Ravidandran presided. K. Rethinam, Secretary and Correspondent of the Alumni Association, and K. Shanmugavel, its coordinator felicitated. Resource person Anu Krishnavaradharajan encouraged students to recognise their strengths, build self-confidence and pursue their aspirations. S. Sujatha, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Student Welfare Cell, welcomed.
University ranking
Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education, a deemed university in Srivilliputhur, has secured the 192nd rank globally, 109th in Asia and sixth in India in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026. Initiated by Universitas Indonesia, the rankings assess campus greening and environmental sustainability and cover 2,016 universities across 110 countries. Chancellor S. Arivalagi, vice-president S. Shasi Anand and S. Arjun Kalasalingam congratulated the university on the achievement.
Inter-Collegiate Indoor Games
Nadar Saraswathi College of Arts and Science and Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal, jointly organised the Inter-Collegiate Indoor Games 2026, with 65 students from eight colleges participated. College president A.S.G. Dharmarajan presided, while secretary V.M.K.K. Rathakrishnan welcomed. Principal S. Chitra and Director of Physical Education and Sports (in-charge) of the university A. Rajam felicitated. Mother Teresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal, won the badminton title, while Sri Adichunchanagiri Women’s College, Cumbum, secured the table tennis title. V.Abinaya of Nadar Saraswathi College won the chess competition. Joint Secretary K. Vanniyarajan distributed the prizes. R. Rathna, Head of the Department of Physical Education, proposed a vote of thanks.
Conference held
The Department of English, Sri Krishnasamy Arts and Science College, organised a conference on “Digital Humanities and the Future of Literary Studies”. V. Jansi, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Pasumalai, Madurai, was the resource person. She spoke on the role of digital technologies in literary studies and emerging opportunities in digital humanities. Students from various institutions presented papers on literature, media, technology and contemporary literary culture.
Guest lecture held
Library and Information Services Club of Sri Kaliswari College organised a guest lecture on “Reading: A Gateway to Knowledge, Growth and Success”. Chief Librarian S. Sridhar presided. P. Packiyaraj, an alumnus of the 2013-2016 batch and an employee of Bio Shield Health Care, Chennai, was the resource person. He highlighted the importance of reading books and newspapers to improve knowledge, communication skills, concentration and career prospects. Around 30 students participated.
