The CPI(M), Tiruppur unit, has urged the City Police to consider the view points of representatives of recognised trade union and political parties before proceeding with the proposed move to convert Avinashi Road into a one-way thoroughfare.
Diversion of vehicles along the 60-feet P.N. Road will only accentuate the traffic congestion, said C. Moorthy, CPI (M) District Secretary, in a representation to the Commissioner of Police, Tiruppur City.
Though the move is well-intended, it will cause immense inconvenience to the residents in Odakkadu, Murungapalayam, Kumar Nagar, Ram Nagar and Ramayya Colony.
Workers employed in MSME units will be compelled to travel extra distance. Also, the workers who depend on buses to travel to the industries will be left in the lurch as the one-way system will render the Kumar Nagar and Bangla bus stops infructuous, Mr. Moorthy pointed out.
The traffic changes made elsewhere in the city have exposed pedestrians to danger, and seem to be focussed only on reducing the number of traffic signals. The law-enforcers must realise that unlike other cities, industrial units are located well within residential localities in Tiruppur city.
Hence, the proposal for converting Avinashi Road into a one-way thoroughfare should be withdrawn, Mr. Moorthy emphasised.
