Stepping up its crackdown on illegal ganja cultivation, Adilabad district police seized 385 ganja plants from two agricultural fields at Potam Loddi village in Adilabad rural mandal on Thursday. The seized plants are estimated to be worth around ₹38.50 lakh.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Adilabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhil Mahajan said cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the alleged cultivators, identified as Mesram Gangaram Patel and Mesram Nagu, who are on the run and efforts are underway to nab them.
The SP warned of stern legal action against cannabis cultivators, and all those involved in the illegal trade.
He said cash rewards would be given to those providing credible information on ganja cultivation and the illegal trade, while assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential. Information can be shared via WhatsApp at 8712659973.
The SP further said action had been recommended to discontinue government scheme benefits to cultivators on 250 acres of agricultural land where cannabis was found to be grown so far.
