The Vijayawada Utsav 2.0 began in grand style at Punnami Ghat on the banks of the Krishna river on Sunday. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Organised by the Society for Vibrant Vijayawada with the support of the State government and Tourism department, the festival is being held on the initiative of Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni).

Colourful cultural performances, traditional dances and programmes promoting fading art forms attracted visitors. Mr. Sivanath said the festival aimed to showcase Vijayawada’s hospitality, culture, traditions and spiritual heritage nationally. He described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s letter appreciating the festival as a matter of pride.

Mr. Ram Mohan Naidu praised the MP’s efforts and said the festival would promote local talent, tourism and economic opportunities for small traders. The National Saras Mela, featuring products made by women self-help groups (SHGs) from various States, was another major attraction.

Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha appreciated the organisers’ efforts and stressed women’s safety, dignity and empowerment. The organisers appealed to people to participate in the celebrations and help establish Vijayawada as a prominent cultural and tourism destination.
