Citizens’ Voice Coimbatore (CVC) has urged the Coimbatore Corporation to address glitches in its online property-tax payment system and ensure that digital payment facilities function reliably at its collection centres.
In a representation to Corporation Commissioner, the CVC said taxpayers had reported repeated attempts to access the online portal, with some unable to complete payments because the system was inaccessible, froze or failed during transactions.
It also said taxpayers visiting collection centres were on occasions unable to make payments through UPI and other digital modes because of connectivity issues. The CVC urged the corporation to provide an alternative payment mechanism when the online system or digital payment facilities were unavailable.
The organisation sought strengthening of server capacity and digital infrastructure, particularly during peak payment periods, and greater transparency on system failures and alternative payment arrangements. It also called for ensuring equal access to digital services for individual taxpayers and intermediaries.
CVC said Corporation data indicated that around 73% of property-tax payments were made offline through cash, cheque or demand draft at zonal offices, while 27% were made through digital and online channels. It said improving the reliability of the online system could make tax payment easier for citizens.
