The five-day Dasara Kavigoshti, adding a literary dimension to the cultural celebrations of Mysuru Dasara-2026, will be held from October 13 to 17 at the B.M. Sri Auditorium of the Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies, University of Mysore, at the Manasagangothri campus here.
Announcing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, Dasara Kavigoshti sub-committee deputy special officer and MCC Deputy Commissioner M. Dasegowda said the event would be organised in five distinct categories — Chutuku and Hasya (short and humorous poetry), Yuva (youth), Chiguru (emerging writers), Janapada (folk poetry) and the main Kavigoshti.
The Chutuku and Hasya Kavigoshti on October 13 will be inaugurated by senior writer Vaidehi, with noted actor Mukhyamantri Chandru presiding. Writer H.R. Sujatha will be the chief guest.
The Yuva Kavigoshti on October 14 will be inaugurated by poet K. Shareefa, with senior poet H. Govindaiah presiding. Satyananda Patrot will be the chief guest and film lyricist Hrudayashiva the special guest.
The Chiguru Kavigoshti, aimed at emerging writers, will be held on October 15. Children’s writer Biligiri Krishnamurthy will inaugurate the session, with writer Agrahara Krishnamurthy presiding. Kavitha Kusugal will be the chief guest and young poet Tanish the special guest.
The Janapada Kavyaghoshti on October 16 will be inaugurated by folk scholar P.K. Rajashekara, with Kannada Development Authority Chairman Purushottama Bilimale presiding. Writer Rajappa Dalavayi will be the chief guest.
The main Kavigoshti on October 17 will be inaugurated by senior poet Pratibha Nandakumar, with senior poet Allamaprabhu Bettaduru presiding. Senior poet and cultural thinker Subbu Holeyar will be the chief guest.
Dr. Dasegowda said a Kavigoshti publicity vehicle would be flagged off at 11 a.m. on October 5 to create awareness about the event. The vehicle would travel across Mysuru.
The event will provide a platform for poets and literary talent from different sections of society. It will also feature Bahuroopi poetry, book stalls and other stalls, he said.
