The police action against public protests in Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar triggered protests across the city on Friday (October 10, 2026).

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] took out protest marches following the reports of the detention of senior CPI(M) leaders, including the Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby, Brinda Karat, and Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas.

S. Vijin, State secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), inaugurated a protest organised by the youth organisation.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) district committee also staged a protest march in the city, district secretary N. Arun inaugurated.

Several personalities from the film industry participated in a protest organised jointly by the artists and students’ unions of Maharaja’s College and Government Law College. Directors Aashiq Abu, Amal Neerad, and Rajeev Ravi, along with actors Rima Kallingal and Darshana Rajendran, were part of the protest.
