“The Delimitation Bill formulated by the Union Government based on the 2011 census is adverse to South Indian states, including Karnataka,” said Minister for Agriculture P.M. Narendra Swamy.
Inaugurating a national-level seminar titled ‘Delimitation 2027-India- Democracy, Federalism, Social Justice and the Future of Karnataka’, organised by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Study Centre of Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, he criticised the Union government, which he said was trying to achieve unquestionable political dominance by distorting the federal system and the nature of the Constitution.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Purushothama Bilimale, Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, said: “The ruling party at the Centre is trying to misuse the constitutionally mandated delimitation process for its own political gains.” He warned that a unilateral decision is being imposed without giving enough opportunity for public discussion, and this will be detrimental to the southern states that have effectively implemented the population control program.
