Deputy Election Commissioner chairs zonal-level SIR review meeting in Madurai

Bhanu Prakash Yeturu, Deputy Election Commissioner, Election Commission of India, chaired a zonal-level review meeting on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) works, here on Tuesday.

The meeting, which witnessed the participation of 10 District Collectors (District Election Officers), involved high-level oversight by national and State election authorities.

Praveen Kumar (Madurai) , Simranjeet Singh Kahlon (Ramanathapuram), K. Porkodi (Sivaganga), N.O. Sukhaputra (Virudhunagar), Ranjeet Singh (Theni), S. Saravanan (Dindigul), K. Elambahavath (Thoothukudi), A.K. Kamal Kishore (Tenkasi), R. Sukumar (Tirunelveli), and R. Alagumeena (Kanniyakumari) were present.

Following the State-wide release of the draft electoral roll on December 19, the ECI has initiated procedures to facilitate enrolment of all eligible voters.

According to the ECI, as part of the first phase of the SIR, the enumeration forms were distributed to voters listed in the electoral roll through Booth-Level Officers (BLOs). Based on that, the draft electoral roll was released.

“The names of the voters whose received forms resulted in ‘No Mapping’ (no match found) will not be included in the Draft Electoral Roll. For such cases, the respective Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of the Assembly Constituency will send notices. Based on this, a proper inquiry will be conducted, and action taken based on the submitted documents,” an ECI statement said.

Citizens wishing to update their details in the electoral roll could do so by submitting relevant forms — Form 6 for new registrations, Form 7 for deletions, and Form 8 for address changes, corrections, or replacement of voter ID card.

Apart from the forms, one of the 12 prescribed documents — pensioner ID/PPO, government-issued IDs (local authorities/banks/post offices), birth certificate, valid passport, educational certificates, state permanent residence certificate, forest rights certificate, OBC/SC/ST caste certificates, National Register of Citizens (if available), family register, property allotment certificate, or Aadhaar card (identity proof only) — should be attached with the filled forms.

The ECI would also be conducting special camps on December 27 and 28, and January 3 and 4, 2026, at all polling stations. Those who wanted to make changes in the details could collect the forms at the special camps, fill and submit them along with necessary supporting documents, the statement added.

The applications could also be submitted at the offices of the Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AERO) and Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) on all working days from December 19, 2025, to January 18, 2026. Also, applications could be submitted online through voters.eci.gov.in or via Voter Helpline App.
