Unfurling the national flag, Deputy Mayor T. Nagarajan took the salute and presented meritorious certificates and honoured the employees marking the 77th Republic Day celebrations on Monday.
The Deputy Mayor gave two drivers with four grams of gold coin each for their accident-free driving in the last two decades. He also presented certificates to the employees, including teachers of Madurai Corporation and from other wings.

The students from the Corporation schools presented a cultural program and a few of the songs came in for appreciation from the audience.
The Deputy Mayor in his address appealed to the youth to dedicate themselves in nation building and recalled the sacrifices of late leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi during the freedom struggle.
The Deputy Commissioner Jainulabdeen, Assistant City Health officer Abishek, PRO Maheshwaran and councillors participated in the celebrations.
