DMK ministers pitch for making Tiruchi the second capital of the state

Declaring Tiruchi as the second capital of the State to fulfil a long pending demand of the people of the district was among the suggestions presented to the party’s Assembly election manifesto committee by Municipal Administration Minister and DMK principal secretary K.N.Nehru on Tuesday.

This was among the prominent suggestions in a list of demands pertaining to Tiruchi district presented by Mr.Nehru, along with School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozh and other party office bearers to DMK leader Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, who heads the manifesto committee, during a public consultation exercise in the city on Tuesday.

Building a ring road with check dams (across the Cauvery and Kollidam rivers) around the city to link prominent spiritual destinations such as the Mariamman Temple in Samayapuram, Ranganathswamy Temple in Srirangam,Akilandeswari Temple in Thiruvanaikovil, Vekkaliamman Temple in Woraiyur and the Subramaniaswamy temple in Vayalur was another major demand.

Widening of the narrow Vayalur Road from Puthur Four Roads Junction in the city; establishing a government arts college in Tiruchi East Assembly constituency; establishing an agricultural university, veterinary college and Siddha medical college were among the other demands in the representation.
