The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) on Wednesday urged the Centre and the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the Common University Entrance Test for postgraduate courses (CUET-PG) in all Scheduled Languages instead of restricting it to English and Hindi.
In a media statement, the association said the current CUET-PG language policy was creating barriers for non-Hindi-speaking students, particularly those from rural backgrounds who have completed their schooling and undergraduate education in regional languages. It maintained that these students were being forced to compete in languages that were neither their medium of instruction nor their primary language of academic learning.
The association said the restriction affects students from Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, minority communities as well as first-generation learners. The exclusion of Scheduled Languages from the entrance examination was akin to a violation of constitutional principles.
The AIOBCSA demanded that the CUET-PG be conducted in all Scheduled Languages to ensure a level-playing field for students across the country and to uphold the spirit of inclusive education.
