Education should impart good values to children and make them compassionate towards fellow human beings, Justice V. Ramasubramanian, chairperson, National Human Rights Commission and former judge of the Supreme Court, said in Tiruchi on Monday.
In his address at Santhanam Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School on the occasion of its 15th Annual Day, Justice Ramasubramanian said: “A few years ago, all educational institutions focused merely on the intelligence quotient, but today, we have realised that mere intelligence is not enough to make a human being happy. It is important for institutions and parents to focus on the all-round development of students and character moulding.”
He encouraged students to uphold the Indian values of revering teachers, parents, and guests and reach out to the underprivileged. “You can only attain immortality through service and sacrifice, and that is what education should teach you,” he said.
School chief executive officer K. Chandrasekaran spoke. Principal Padma Srinivasan presented the annual report.
