Steps are being taken to increase the ceiling of personal loan being given by Tamil Nadu Minorities Economic Development Corporation up to ₹3 lakh for the economic activities of the minorities, Chairman of the Corporation A.B. Thameem Ansari has said.
Speaking here on Thursday after disbursing assistance to beneficiaries from minority communities, he said loans with attractive interest rates were being given to members of the target groups to uplift their livelihood and economic conditions. Apart from personal loans, assistance for education and floating micro and small industries were also being given at competitive rate of interest. Hence, entrepreneurs and students from minority communities should make use of this assistance to improve their living standards.
Meritorious students from minority communities could get educational loans for their higher studies in the domestic and foreign educational institutions. While the quantum of loan for joining higher studies in the domestic institutes is determined based on the nature of the course, ₹6 lakh loan is given for 6 years so that the students could complete their studies abroad.
“The Tamil Nadu Government, which has allocated ₹100 crore for giving loans to eligible persons from minority communities during this fiscal, has given ₹20 crore loan in the past four months through the Minorities’ Economic Development Corporation. Since the Tamil Nadu Government has earmarked ₹3 crore for Tirunelveli district for this year, interested candidates may apply for availing the loans. The beneficiary students and others should repay the loans once they land in jobs and start their business,” said Mr. Thameem, who disbursed assistance to the tune of ₹5.75 lakh.
