A 75-year-old man was murdered allegedly by his son at Kottathur in Thuraiyur police station limits in the district on Wednesday night. The Thuraiyur police arrested G. Mani, 38, on charges of killing his father P. Ganesan.
Dispute over sale of land and share in money is said to be the cause behind the killing. Ganesan and his wife have four children — three sons and a daughter — all of whom are married. Police sources said a few days ago Ganesan sold a piece of land and distributed the sale proceeds among his other children. Mani is alleged to have demanded his share of money resulting in a dispute between them.
The sources said Ganesan was reportedly discussing the sale price of another piece of land near his house on Wednesday night. Mani reportedly objected and demanded that the land should not be sold without giving him his share. A quarrel broke out between the father and son. In a fit of rage, Mani allegedly attacked his father with a log and a billhook murdering him.
