The Erode Corporation has initiated steps to disconnect water supply connections of property tax defaulters with high arrears, as part of efforts to speed up tax collection.
There are 1,48,017 property tax assessments in the Corporation limits. Of these, 83,843 taxpayers have not paid property tax for the first half of the financial year 2026-27. The property tax arrears stand at ₹1,975.06 lakh, while the current demand is ₹4,807.62 lakh.
The Corporation has already published twice, on its website, the list of the top 100 taxpayers who have not paid their property tax dues for 2026-27. Of the total dues of these taxpayers, ₹9,34,65,391 remains outstanding, Corporation Commissioner Arpit Jain said in a release.
As a first step to expedite tax collection, the Corporation is preparing a list of taxpayers with high tax arrears and taking steps to disconnect their water supply connections, he said.
Taxes payable to the Corporation, including property tax, vacant land tax, professional tax, water charges and sewerage charges, can be paid at the Corporation’s tax collection centres or through online payments. The Commissioner appealed to the public to pay their taxes, including property tax, within the stipulated time and cooperate with the Corporation in carrying out development works.
