A 65-year-old farmer was killed on the spot after his two-wheeler knocked down by a car belonging to Tiruvaiyaru DMK MLA Durai Chandrasekar near Orathanadu in Thanjavur district on Tuesday.
Police identified the deceased as C. Govindaraj of Thennamanadu, Nadutheru, near Orathanadu. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son, who is employed abroad. Govindaraj was engaged in agriculture in his native village.
Police said Govindaraj was riding to his fields for farm work when the car, which was travelling from Orathanadu towards Thanjavur, hit the two-wheeler. He sustained severe injuries and died at the spot. On receiving information, Orathanadu police reached the scene and sent the body to Orathanadu Government Hospital for post-mortem.
