Farmers in Vizianagaram district bear the brunt of incessant rain

Vizianagaram district bore the brunt of incessant rains as over 15,000 acres of standing crop have been damaged and 1,500 families have been evacuated from low-lying areas after the officials of the irrigation department on Friday released 24,000 cusecs of water from Madduvalasa reservoir in Rajam Assembly constituency due to rising water levels in Vegavathi and Suvarnamukhi rivers.

Rajam Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Kondru Murali Mohan visited flood-affected villages in Vangara mandal and assured a quick support from the government to the villagers. He directed TDP leaders and workers to take up service activities in the flood-affected villages after residents complained that they would suffer financial losses due to crop damage. The legislator directed TDP leaders and activists to take up service activities in the flood-affected villages such as Koppara, Kondachakarapalli, Geetanapalli, and Patuvardhanam.

Thotapalli reservoir located near Parvatipuram has received huge waters from catchment areas. Around 23,250 cusecs of water from the Nagavali River was discharged from the reservoir on Friday afternoon. The impact of floods in Parvatipuram-Manyam district has been less compared to Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. However, the two-day rain proved to be a relief for the residents of the district.
