Employers should register their firms and the workers with the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Scheme for Promoting Registration of Employers and Employees (SPREE) before December 31.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Joint Director of ESIC, Tirunelveli, Bhaskar said 600 new business establishments in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari districts had enrolled their firms and the workers with the ESIC while 300 more units were yet to do so. Hence, these erring firms would face serious consequences if they failed to register their business establishments and the workers with the ESIC before December 31. The owners of the firecracker manufacturing units and fuel stations should enrol their workers with the ESIC as they were working in hazardous environment.
The rubber plantation workers should be registered with the ESIC as the managements of these companies did not bother to do so. If it was not done before December 31, these companies would have to face serious consequences, Mr. Bhaskaran warned.
When asked about the functioning of ESIC hospitals, he said the construction of 100-bedded ESIC Hosptial in Thoothukudi had been completed while site for constructing similar facility in Kanniyakumari district selected.
