Fisheries Minister visits five coastal hamlets of Tirunelveli district; meets fishermen to understand their problems, demands

Minister for Fisheries A. Srinath met fishermen of five major fishermen hamlets in the district on Friday to understand their problems and genuine demands.

Mr. Srinath said he was visiting the coastal hamlets across the State to understand the problems of the fishermen, the infrastructure created in the coastal hamlets and the developments to be done in the villages to facilitate fishing.

During this visit, the Minister met the fishermen of Koottappuli, Idinthakarai, Koothenkuzhi, Uvari and Koottapanai villages and received petitions from them.

After inspecting the ongoing construction of groyne in Koottappuli at a cost of ₹48.50 crore, Mr. Srinath instructed the officials to complete the work at the earliest. He also instructed the officials to extend the groynes in Koottapanai, Idinthakarai and Koothenkuzhi and ensure the unhindered distribution of subsidised kerosene for country boats.

District Collector Anand Mohan, Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi, Ayush Gupta, Radhapuram MLA S. K. Christopher and Joint Director of Fisheries Ilamvazhuthi accompanied the Minister.
