In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chennai on Sunday, the Greater Chennai Police have put in place a five-tier security arrangement involving 15,000 officers and personnel.

A review meeting chaired by Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj was held at the Police Commissioner’s Office in Vepery on Friday to discuss the security arrangements.

Extensive security measures have been put in place at Chennai airport, Porur Bypass Metro station, IIT campus in Kotturpuram, Chennai Trade Centre in Nandambakkam, Lok Bhavan in Guindy, and their surrounding areas.

Security has also been strengthened along key routes the Prime Minister is scheduled to take, with intensive checks and surveillance under way.

The police are conducting inspections at lodges, guest houses, star hotels and other accommodation facilities to identify suspicious individuals. Intensive vehicle checks are also being carried out on major roads in the city.

In addition, elaborate security arrangements have been made at railway stations, Metro Rail stations, and bus terminals across Chennai, with the police maintaining heightened surveillance.
