The food safety licence of a restaurant near the Vijayamangalam tollgate in Perundurai taluk was temporarily suspended following an inspection on Friday (October 9, 2026) that found unhygienic conditions.
According to a press release issued by the district administration on Saturday (October 10), a team comprising the Designated Officer and Food Safety Officers inspected the restaurant’s kitchen, food storage and sales areas and found them operating under unhygienic conditions. Officials also seized around 60 packets of popcorn being sold without complete food safety labelling information.
Seven food samples were collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis. A notice was issued directing the restaurant to stop sales. Further action is being initiated before the District Adjudicating Officer against the establishment for failing to implement corrective measures despite repeated inspection notices, the release said. A series of inspections is being conducted at restaurants across the district to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Consumers and members of the public can report food safety violations by calling 0424-2223545 or 94440-42322. The identities of complainants will be kept confidential, the release said.
