Former Minister and Congress leader B. Shivaramu has urged the State government to withdraw the case relating to the grant of bagair-hukum lands in Belur taluk from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and resolve the matter to benefit farmers.
Addressing a press conference in Hassan on Saturday, Mr. Shivaramu said the Karnataka High Court had ordered Belur police to investigate alleged irregularities in 2,142 cases of land grants made between 2016 and 2022.
The police could not conduct the investigation, and the district administration handed over the cases to the CID in 2025. So far, the CID has issued notices in 1,430 cases. “The process has left the farming community in fear. They are not in a position to cultivate the lands,” he said.
The Congress leader demanded that the case be withdrawn from the CID and the matter resolved. “Former MLA K.S. Lingesh has not committed any crime in this case. However, he was arrested as he did not make efforts to approach the court for bail,” he said.
On K.M. Shivalinge Gowda being inducted into the Cabinet and made Minister-in-charge of Hassan, Mr. Shivaramu said he would extend his support to Mr. Shivalinge Gowda. “It is good to have someone from the district as Minister-in-charge. He knows the district well, and I hope he will address issues concerning the district,” he said.
