Former Vattiyurkavu MLA, V.K.Prasanth alleged on Wednesday that the land acquisition for the third reach of the Vattiyurkavu junction development project has been delayed after the United Democratic Front (UDF) government too over. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader said in a statement on Wednesday that the land acquisition process for the Mannarakkonam-Nettayam-Vazhayila stretch in the third reach was in the final stages under the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF), but it has slowed down in the past few months.

He said that the delays in the third reach could make the entire junction development project ineffective and called for the State government to expedite the process. The relevant government notifications for land acquisition as well as the environment impact assessment for the third reach have already been completed. However, the change of government happened when land acquisition was in the final stages. The development of the 3.8 km stretch from Mannarakkonam to Vazhayila depends on completion of the land acquisition.

Mr.Prasanth alleged that the inauguration carried out by Health Minister K.Muraleedharan, the current Vattiyurkavu MLA, on Monday of the civil works as part of the junction development project, was of work which was already progressing. The previous government had allocated ₹531.76 crore, completed tender proceedings and inaugurated the construction activities. The Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) was also contracted to widen the Sasthamangalam- Mannarakkonam and Mannarakkonam-Peroorkada stretches as part of this, he said.
