A former panchayat president was found murdered on the Illupur – Avur road near Pakudi in Pudukottai district on Monday. Police gave the name of the murdered man as S. Nagaraj, 57, of Irunthirapatti in Illupur.
Police said Nagaraj was found murdered on the roadside with a cut on his neck. On receipt of information, local police personnel, a scientific officer, and a fingerprint expert inspected the spot and a detective dog of the Pudukottai district police was brought to the spot.
The body was shifted to the Pudukottai Government Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The sources said Nagaraj was named as an accused in a Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act case booked in Illupur police station earlier. The exact motive behind the murder are under investigation.
