The Kodungaiyur police have arrested eight persons, including four history-sheet offenders, on charges of attempting to murder a youth.
The police said that the victim, Arulraj, 26, is a resident of M.G.R. Nagar, Rickshaw Colony, Kodungaiyur. A daily-wage labourer, Arulraj was returning home on a two-wheeler on Wednesday night when the incident occurred. He approached Anna Salai on 4th Street, M.G.R. Nagar, close to his residence, when a man named Rajesh, his brother, and their friends from the same locality intercepted Arulraj and asked him where his friend Surya was. They got into an argument, and the group attacked Arulraj with knives, before fleeing.
Arulraj, who sustained bleeding injuries, is undergoing inpatient treatment at Government Stanley Hospital. Based on his complaint regarding the incident, the Kodungaiyur police station registered a case under sections, including attempt to murder, and commenced an investigation.
The police arrested eight persons, including Rajesh, in connection with the attempted murder case. Four knives allegedly used in the crime were seized from them. The accused were then remanded in judicial custody.
