Former Prime Minister and JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has reiterated that he will continue to strengthen the party despite his old age. “We will hold a much bigger rally in Hassan than what the ruling Congress did,” he said.

Speaking to the press at Haradanahalli in Holenarasipur taluk, his native place, on December 29, Mr. Deve Gowda said he will fight for the party until his last breath. “The Congress held rallies twice in Hassan in the last two years. Why are they so keen on Hassan?” he questioned, adding, “The Congress did all tricks to tarnish the image of Revanna. However, they did not succeed. His contributions to Hassan are significant and we will release a list of development works he initiated in Hassan at the right time.”

Commenting on the status of the Congress in the country, the former PM said that the party holds power only in three States. “However, the BJP holds power in 14 states. We are with the NDA,” he stated.

Mr. Deve Gowda offered his prayers at the Deveshwara Temple in the village. His son H.D. Revanna and other family members accompanied him.

Workers’ meeting

Later, Mr. Deve Gowda held a meeting with party workers in Hassan. He told them that his party, a regional party, had remained strong in the State because of the people’s support. “The people of Hassan have played a prominent role in my political career, which began in 1962. Party workers and people in the district have prayed for my health,” the JD(S) leader noted.

He said that the party will hold a rally in Hassan on January 24, 2026, and that more than two lakh people are expected to attend it. Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy and other party leaders will also attend, he said.

Former Ministers H.D. Revanna, A. Manju, H.K. Kumaraswamy, S.R. Mahesh, legislators C.N. Balakrishna, Suraj Revanna, H.P. Swaroop, and others attended the meeting.
