Four die in collision involving multiple vehicles at Thoppur in Dharmapuri

Four people were killed and three sustained grievous injuries in a collision involving multiple vehicles on Thoppur Ghat Road in Dharmapuri district on Tuesday (December 16, 2025).

According to the police, a lorry carrying cattle fodder was headed for Namakkal district from Maharashtra. S. Munusamy, 43, a resident of Nadukkarapatti in Namakkal, was driving the vehicle. As the lorry reached Thoppur Ghat Road, the driver lost control of the wheel collided with a bike, a parcel van, a car, and another van.

Munusamy sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot. P. Arunagiri, a resident of Madhemangalam near Nallampalli in Dharmapuri district, and his sister V. Kalaiarasi, a resident of the same locality, who were on the bike, also died on the spot.

Four passengers of one of the vans sustained grievous injuries, and P. Dinesh, 30, a resident of Pethanaickenpalayam near Attur in Salem district, died on the way to Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital. On being alerted, Dharmapuri District Collector R. Sadheesh and Transport Department officials arrived at the spot and conducted inquiries. The Thoppur police registered a case and are investigating the matter further.

Due to the accident, vehicular movement came to a halt in the area. The police removed the vehicles involved in the accident from the road; after two hours, traffic returned to normalcy.
