Four persons, including two migrant workers, were killed in road accidents in neighbouring Perambalur and Pudukottai districts on Sunday.
The accident in Pudukottai district occurred in Karaiyur police station limits involving a private bus and a car. The occupants of the car were proceeding from Arasamalai towards Palakkurichi when the vehicle and the private bus collided head-on near Maravamadurai Vilakku at around 10.30 a.m. S. Sivakami, 45, of Piranpatti and R. Dhanapal, 28, who were travelling in the car were killed on the spot. Two women — V. Rasu, 55, and R. Indira, 47, both of Sundampatti village — travelling by the car were injured. The two bodies were sent to the Pudukottai Government Medical College and Hospital where the injured are undergoing treatment. The Karaiyur police are investigating.
Rupesh, 24, and Dikkeswar, 25, both from Chhattisgarh and labourers at a private unit, were killed in the accident at Palayam in Perambalur district. They were sleeping in the parking area near a petrol bunk at Palayam when the driver of a backhoe loader moved the vehicle from the parking area and ran over them. Both labourers were killed on the spot. The Perambalur Rural police are investigating, said police sources.
