Four persons were killed and four others sustained grievous injuries in separate accidents in the Salem and Namakkal districts.
S. Parimala (38), was a resident of Pachal, near Puduchatram, in Namakkal district. On Saturday evening she, along with her younger sister M. Sudha (35) and Sudha’s daughters Gausiha (11) and Gausalysa (4), went by walk to Kalipatti Kandasamy Temple, near Attaiyampatti, to attend the Thai Poosam festival.
On Sunday they reached the temple and after participating in the festival, in the evening they headed to their house. Near Pachal, Parimala’s husband, Shanmugam, came on a bike and all five travelled on a single bike. While they reached A.K. Samudram, a speedy car collided with the bike and fled. In the accident, the five sustained grievous injuries and the siblings Parimala and Sudha died on the spot. Shanmugam and two children were admitted to Namakkal Government Hospital. The Puduchatram police registered a case and are investigating.
Likewise, Thamaraiselvan (25), a resident of Thattankuttai near Komarapalayam in Namakkal, along with nearby residents K. Lingeswaran (13), a class VII student, and his brother K. Navneswaran (12), a class VI student, went to attend the festival at Kalipatti Kandasamy Temple by bike on Saturday evening. When they reached Chinnagoundanur, near Sankari, in Salem district, a lorry rammed the bike. In the accident, the trio sustained grievous in injuries and the siblings Lingeswaran and Navneswaran died on the spot. The Sankari police registered a case and are investigating.
