BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy on Wednesday (September 30, 2026) said that the Tamil Nadu government must transfer the probe into the sexual assault case involving ‘Gem Granites’ R. Veeramani, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a social media post, he said one of the officers in the all-woman Special Investigation Team (SIT) handling the sexual assault case involving Veeramani — V.V. Geethanjali, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Against Women and Children, Greater Chennai Police, Chennai — has requested to recuse herself from the team. The officer requested to be exempted from the panel, citing her prior involvement in the initial investigation of this case — conducted under the supervision of the then Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun — during her tenure with the Central Crime Branch.

“Given the possibility that various high-ranking police officials may have played a role in diluting or prematurely concluding this case, it would be proper and fair for the investigation to be handed over to the CBI. The Tamil Nadu government must immediately request a CBI inquiry into this matter,” Mr. Thirupathy said.
