A day after a woman and her two children ended their lives on the outskirts of Charlapalli Railway Station, the Government Railway Police (GRP), Secunderabad, has asked her husband to appear for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
The man, identified as 48-year-old Surender Reddy, has been working with a private company in Dubai and had been residing there. Police said he returned to Hyderabad on Saturday (January 31, 2026) evening to attend the final rites. An official close to the investigation said that Reddy was contacted over the phone as part of preliminary probe and was asked to come to the police station on Monday for further enquiry.
The deceased were identified as 38-year-old Penaty Vijaya, a software employee, and her two children — 18-year-old Chetana Reddy, and 17-year-old Vishal Reddy, both students. The incident was reported on early hours of Saturday (January 31, 2026), near kilometre marker 207/2. The bodies were later shifted to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
During the course of the probe, police recovered a small handwritten note from the woman’s car which did not cite any specific reason for ending the lives and stated no one is responsible for their death.
Preliminary findings suggest that Vijaya drove to Cherlapalli Railway Station, parked her car on the premises and then walked towards the outskirts of the Station before jumping in front of a moving train along with her children. Police said further investigation is under way to ascertain the factors that may have led to the incident.
