The Guntur Municipal Corporation has rolled out a ₹2.7 crore “Summer Action Plan” to ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply across the city with the onset of summer.

Municipal Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) directed the engineering officials to implement the plan immediately and warned that they would be held accountable for any lapses in water supply. He said that the primary objective is to provide adequate and safe drinking water to all areas without disruption.

The Commissioner noted that 823 pipeline points across 206 localities have been identified where pipelines pass over drainage canals, posing contamination risks. He instructed officials to prioritize the replacement of such pipelines.

Daily monitoring of water quality was also mandated, with each amenities secretary required to test at least 10 samples and upload chlorine level reports on the APCMM app under the supervision of assistant and deputy executive engineers.

To strengthen infrastructure, ₹1 crore has been allocated for new pipelines in such areas, ₹50 lakh for drilling new borewells, and ₹40 lakh for repairs of existing ones. Six special water tankers will be kept ready to supply water in areas facing shortages, and in merged localities.

The civic body also plans to set up drinking water kiosks at 20 busy centres and install green mat sheds at four major junctions to provide relief from heat. Reservoirs will be cleaned, and officials were instructed to address public complaints on leakages or contamination within 24 hours.
