Handloom bazaar inaugurated in Vijayawada

A handloom bazaar organised by Crafts Council of Andhra Pradesh (CCAP) was inaugurated at PVP Square Mall in Vijayawada on Thursday.

NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha inaugurated a handloom bazaar and appreciated the initiatives being taken by the CCAP to promote the State’s rich handloom and handicraft traditions.

Such events would help create awareness among the younger generation about the rich traditions and contribute to preserving the crafts for future generations, he said and lauded the CCAP for working towards the sustainable development of handlooms and handicrafts without a profit motive.

The bazaar, organised in connection with Gandhi Jayanti, will remain open between 9.30 a.m. and 8.30 p.m. until October 4. Handloom products from traditional weaving centres such as Venkatagiri, Pochampally and Pedana, along with traditional handicrafts, were being promoted through such programmes, the Collector said.

He appealed to the public to visit the bazaar and purchase handloom textiles and handicraft products, thereby supporting weavers and artisans.
