The Hindu College Staff Association (HCSA) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh urging him to take over the college’s administration.

The association also sought an independent and time-bound inquiry into alleged irregularities in admissions, finances, procurement and appointments, and the college’s functioning. It alleged that there were irregularities in supernumerary admissions despite objections from teachers-in-charge and committee conveners.

It claimed that norms such as the prescribed 20% cap and applicable university ordinances had been breached. It also claimed that a meeting to ratify the admissions was presented as a staff council meeting even though no such meeting had been convened or attended by HCSA members.

The development comes against the backdrop of a controversy over admissions under the extracurricular activities and sports categories.

Show-cause notices

Last week, the association stated that three of its members were served show-cause notices even as they were “legitimately representing the collective and unanimous mandate of HCSA meetings”.

Principal Anju Srivastava had said the notices were issued in view of a “derogatory e-mail” sent by the staff members.

The memorandum alleged that faculty members were being denied leave, sabbaticals, and promotions.

It also raised concerns over the “repeated incidents of fire, structural defects, and seepage” in newly constructed buildings at the college.

University officials did not respond to requests for comment on the issue.
