INTUC Secretary General B. Janak Prasad slammed BRS senior MLA and former Minister T. Harish Rao stating that he had no moral right to comment on Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) employees’ issues. Mr. Harish Rao recently alleged that the Congress government was attempting to abolish the dependent and compassionate appointment system by weakening the SCCL Medical Board.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, Mr. Janak Prasad alleged that during the previous regime, BRS MPs supported a bill in Parliament that paved the way for privatisation of the SCCL.
He accused Mr. Harish Rao of misusing Singareni funds when he was Finance Minister, burdening the company with arrears of nearly ₹30,000 crore. “You diverted Singareni funds to Siddipet for building a stadium,” he charged.
Mr. Janak Prasad said the BRS government failed to reserve adequate medical seats for workers’ children.
In contrast, he said, “The Congress government has taken several pro-worker measures, including ₹1 crore accident insurance, a ₹5,000 hike for contract workers, and an increase in bonus to ₹5,500. Other welfare steps include raising the recruitment age limit to 35 to 40 years, granting special bonuses to contract workers, and appointing a BC Liaison Officer.”
He said the State government is trying to strengthen SCCL through initiatives like agreements with Rajasthan for solar and thermal power projects and plans for a super-specialty hospital in Hyderabad.
