Residents of Kilarumbur village near Thiruvadanai submitted a petition to Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon at the public grievance redressal meeting here on Monday, demanding the re-laying of a road that had been remaining ruined for 23 years.
As more than 200 families were residing in Kilarumbur village, the road stretching from the Kulathur junction to the Kilarumbur Adi Dravidar Habitation was last constructed 23 years ago under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the villagers noted.
Due to a total lack of maintenance, tar has completely worn off, leaving gravels exposed and path riddled with deep potholes.
“During rainy seasons, government bus services are frequently suspended due to the poor condition of the road. School students and senior citizens are facing immense hardship. Even autorickshaws refuse to come to our village during medical emergencies,” they added.
Despite submitting multiple petitions to the panchayat administration, no actions were taken.
Though several protests were organised earlier for the same demand, the villagers warned that if steps were not taken immediately to repair the road, they would surrender the Aadhaar and voter ID cards and boycott the upcoming Assembly elections.
