HC directs District Collectors to take immediate steps to fence abandoned quarries

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the District Collectors of Southern and Central districts, coming under the jurisdiction of the Madurai Bench, to take immediate steps to fence abandoned quarries to prevent loss of human and animal lives.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman directed such exercise should be carried out and completed in three months with the assistance of the green funds already available with them. The expenses incurred may be recovered from leaseholders.
