The city police has enhanced security arrangements for New Year celebrations to ensure public safety and prevent any untoward incidents.

With special emphasis placed on the safety of women and children, a statement issued by the office of Mysuru City Police Commissioner said special teams had been formed under the supervision of senior police officers to prevent indecent behavior, obscenity, and public nuisance during celebrations.

Legal action will be taken against violators, the statement warned.

Pink Garuda patrol vehicles, also known as Chamundi patrol, comprising women officers and staff, will also be deployed to ensure the safety of women.

A total of 1,466 police personnel, including 1062 constables and head constables, 138 assistant sub-inspectors, 66 police sub-inspectors, 34 police inspectors, eight assistant police commissioners, and four deputy police commissioners will be deployed to maintain law and order.

In addition, 10 units of City Armed Reserve (CAR), five units of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) force, and two units of commandos will be deployed.

To prevent any untoward incidents, surveillance and inspection will be intensified, with the support of a dog squad and bomb detection units.

CCTV cameras will be installed and closely monitored at important and sensitive locations across the city.

To prevent rash driving, wheeling, drag racing and excessive noise, special traffic enforcement teams will be deployed throughout Mysuru and legal action will be initiated against offenders, the police statement warned.

Checkposts will be set up not only at the city’s entry and exit points but also to curb drunk driving and reckless driving.
