1. Karnataka BJP gets new in-charge leader
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed new in-charge and co-in-charge leaders for its Karnataka unit, apparently to prepare the party for the next Assembly elections due in 2028.
Party National General Secretary Harish Dvivedhi, who had earlier worked as in-charge for Assam, has been appointed as in-charge for the party’s Karnataka unit. Mr. Dvivedihi is a former MP who is known for his poll strategies. He is expected to prepare the BJP’s Karnataka unit for the next Assembly elections.
Mr. Dvivedhi replaces Dr. Radhamohan Das Agarwal who was in-charge of the BJP’s Karnataka unit so far. Dr. Kasam Venkanteshwaralu has been appointed co-in-charge for the State.
2. Demand for special session of Karnataka legislature on caste survey
Congress member B.S. Shivanna brought up the contentious socio-economic survey (caste census) conducted by the Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes. On September 23, during the discussion on drought in the Assembly, he said the State government should convene a special session to discuss the survey report of the Madhusudan Naik Commission in detail.
“The government has spent hundreds of crores to get the survey done. It should not go into cold storage. People need to know the details of the report,” said Mr. Shivanna. The report was submitted to Mr. Siddaramaiah a day before he stepped down as chief minister. Since then, he has, on a couple of occasions, spoken about the necessity of implementing the recommendations.
3. Parking receipts lack vehicle number finds Upa Lokayukta B. Veerappa at Chikkodi bus stand
Upa Lokayukta Justice B. Veerappa paid a surprise visit to the bus station in Chikkodi in Belagavi district on September 24. He visited various food stalls at the bus station and checked the quality of the food items being sold.
At the bus station’s cafeteria, he inspected the food preparation area and the storage room. He emphasised the need to serve quality food to customers, and prioritise cleanliness.
He inquired about the wages paid to the staff and directed the management to ensure that minimum wages are paid in accordance with government guidelines.
