A Sub-Inspector of police and his driver were injured when a fish-laden lorry collided head-on with their patrol vehicle near Tirumalayapalem on the Khammam-Warangal highway in Khammam district in the wee hours of Thursday.
The injured were identified as Tirumalayapalem SI K. Jagadish and his driver, Rakesh. They were rushed to a hospital in Khammam for treatment.
According to the police, the lorry was carrying a load of fish from Akividu in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh when it crashed into the police patrol vehicle on the outskirts of Tirumalayapalem.
Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt visited the injured at the hospital and enquired about their condition.
While the SI’s condition was stated to be stable, Rakesh was later shifted to a super-speciality hospital in Hyderabad for better treatment.
A case was registered against the lorry driver, Shaik Rasool, for alleged rash and negligent driving. Further investigation is underway.
