A popular hotel in the heart of the city has been using firewood to meet about 65% of its cooking needs for the past 35 years. In addition, it has also been using the residue of cashew nut shells as fuel to prepare sweets for a decade.
According to S. Ramdas Shenoy, who owns Hotel Ayodhya, located near PVS Circle, the hotel uses a firewood-fired boiler to prepare meals, some other food items, and to boil vegetables. “Firewood meets about 65% of our hotel’s cooking needs,” he told The Hindu, adding that “LPG cylinders are used mainly to prepare dosas of different varieties and tastes, and account 35% of the cooking.”
