The Hyderabad Against Trans Erasure Collective has condemned the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026, which has been passed in both Houses of Parliament. The collective termed the legislation a rollback of constitutional rights and a move towards State-controlled identity. The Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on March 24, and in the Rajya Sabha on March 25.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the collective said the amendment undermines the right to self-identification recognised under the NALSA judgment and reintroduces medical and bureaucratic gatekeeping.
