Fussy Ccat is what the Begumpet cocktail bar Oxymorons becomes before the sun goes down. Founded by Honey, Rehan and Rohit Guha, the evening bar slips into a lunch-only restaurant from noon until 3pm, trading cocktails for ramen and dim lighting for an easy, playful mood.
Hidden behind a bookshelf, the entrance sets the tone. Before you step inside, you are greeted by a row of red cat figurines, each wearing a different expression. If you are a cat lover, you will almost certainly pause to inspect every one.

The feline theme continues inside, but lightly. Cat-printed curtains, playful table props and little details scattered around the room give the space its own personality.
Honey explains, “Fussy Ccat is built around a simple belief that people get bored of repetition. Most restaurants are built around a cuisine. We wanted to build one around curiosity. Instead of a fixed menu, Fussy Ccat operates through edits — limited-period menus centred around a particular food obsession. Each edit lives for a few months before making way for the next, giving guests a reason to keep coming back and discover something new. The first edit is centred around ramen.”
But why the name, Fussy CCat? “The name comes from a cat that used to hang around the Country Club compound. Nobody knew where she came from, but everyone knew her. She would casually move between outlets, deciding where she wanted to eat that day. One day she’d seem interested in something, the next day she’d completely ignore it,” says Rohit.
Fussy Ccat feels designed for the kind of lunch that does not need rushing. The menu leans Asian, while salads and a handful of lighter starters cater to those looking for something quick before heading back to work.

It is also a place where you can complain about the weather, traffic, deadlines or your boss, while finding at least one cat in the room that seems to share your mood.
Since this was a working lunch, I ordered without much deliberation: the potato and egg salad, the pan-fried gyoza and, on Rohit’s recommendation, the chicken cabbage rolls.
The food arrived in under 10 minutes, leaving just enough time to take in the room and its many feline personalities. The potato and egg salad appeared first and turned out to be the only miss of the meal. It was not bad, just forgettable, and even a generous layer of grated cheese could not quite rescue it.

Things quickly improved. The gyoza and cabbage rolls were exactly what I hoped they would be — juicy, well-seasoned and lifted by ginger, sesame and chilli oil that worked beautifully with the minced chicken.
By then, I was more than ready for the tonkatsu pork ramen, and it easily became the highlight of lunch.
The broth had depth and character, tasting like it had spent hours on the stove rather than minutes in a packet. Rich yet clean, silky without being heavy, it came with tender slices of pork and a perfectly jammy egg. If you are planning on ordering it, skip the starters and save your appetite.

The seafood ramen is a good choice if prawns are your weakness, while the thecha ramen offers something with a little more kick. What stands out is that each broth has its own identity. The seafood version may be lighter than the tonkatsu, but it never feels diluted or lacking in flavour.
Even the chopstick rest joins in on the theme. Shaped like a tiny cat lying on its back, it is one of those small details that almost everyone ends up photographing.
Dessert was a mixed finish. The orange crème brûlée had a lovely flavour — gently sweet and not at all eggy — but the custard was a touch coarse. The Snickers dessert, however, is worth saving room for. Dense, gooey and dotted with crunchy bits of chikki, it is unapologetically indulgent.
Since it is quickly becoming a go-to place to tuck in some comfort food for office-goers, the music audio levels can be a clicks down.
