Inspector General of Police, South Zone, Vijayendra Bidari, inducted 16 Home Guards in traffic regulation duty on Tuesday, which is first in the district, as police personnel alone were hitherto doing this exercise in Tirunelveli district.
Mr. Bidari inducted 16 Home Guard personnel in the traffic regulation duty and handed over the equipment required for traffic regulation in the night.
“The Home Guards, who have been trained in traffic regulation, will be deployed at Kalakkad, Moolaikaraipatti, Ambasamudram and Thisaiyanvilai police station limits, which will make the traffic regulation more effective and lessen the burden of the police,” said Mr. Bidari.
He exhorted the police personnel to uphold the dignity and values of Tamil Nadu Police and discharge the duty with utmost discipline.
The IG also received petitions from the police personnel.
In the law and order review meeting held at the District Police Office later, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tirunelveli Range, P. Saravanan, Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, N. Manivannan and Superintendents of Police V. Prasannakumar of Tirunelveli, R. Stalin of Kanniyakumari, N. Silambarasan of Thoothukudi participated.
The IG urged his subordinates to give utmost priority for law and order maintenance in this highly sensitive region, especially during the run-up for upcoming Assembly elections, expedite the trial of criminal cases in the courts by producing the evidences and the witnesses in the court on time and execute the pending non-bailable warrants.
